8 Simple, Meaningful Ways to Celebrate Mum & Those Who Care for Us
There’s something profound that shifts when you become a mother.
You begin to see things through a different lens—the quiet sacrifices, the small, consistent acts of love, the way care is often given without expectation. It’s made me reflect more deeply on my own mum, and the bond we share.
For me, there’s a feeling that home isn’t just a place—it’s a person. It’s where my mum is. And now, it’s also where my daughter is. That sense of being held, of belonging, of knowing you’re loved—across generations.

Mother’s Day is a beautiful opportunity to pause and honour that.
And not only for mothers, but for all the incredible people who step into that nurturing role—grandmothers, aunties, mentors, friends—those who show up with care, guidance, and quiet strength.
It doesn’t need to be extravagant to be meaningful. In fact, it’s often the simplest gestures that stay with us the longest.
Here are some thoughtful ways to celebrate:
1. Share stories and memories
Take the time to sit together and talk. Ask about her childhood, her favourite memories, the moments that shaped her. These conversations can be deeply connecting—and often, surprisingly joyful.
I recently had the chance to ask my mum about her childhood in Chile on a drive to Canberra, and it was amazing to hear so much about my mum’s experiences and her relationship with her parents that I never knew about.
Perhaps even ask your mum to write it down, and if she is struggling with where to start, a guided journal such as - My Mum, In Her Own Words or My Grandma, In Her Own Words – might just become a treasured heirloom that gets handed down the generations.
I'm currently over time now sitting down with my parents to fill in their stories in these books - a legacy to hand down to my daughter and my niece.
2. Create a beautiful table setting
Whether it’s a relaxed lunch outdoors or a cosy afternoon tea inside, setting the table with intention can transform the everyday into something special. Layer linen, add a few fresh flowers, and bring out those pieces you love but don’t always use.
3. Cook or bake something meaningful
Food has a way of bringing people together. It could be a family recipe, a favourite cake, or something simple prepared with care. It’s less about perfection, and more about sharing the moment.
Whenever I try to recreate some of my favourite foods from my childhood, such as mum's Chilean Pastel De Choclo or her German Cauliflower soup, I invite her and my dad for dinner so we can share those family favourites again.
4. Offer a little pampering
Create space for her to relax. A warm foot soak, a hand massage, or simply a quiet moment with a cup of tea can feel like a true gift—especially when she’s usually the one caring for others.
5. Make room for laughter and fun
Look through old photo albums, play a board game, pull out a jigsaw puzzle or share stories that make you laugh. Joy and lightness are just as important as reflection—and often bring you even closer.
6. Honour all caregivers and mother figures
Mother’s Day can be a chance to reach out beyond your immediate circle. A message, a call, or a small gesture to an aunty, mentor, or friend who has supported you can mean so much.
7. Write something from the heart
A handwritten note, a letter, or even a few meaningful words can become something treasured over time. It’s a simple but powerful way to express gratitude.

8. Slow down and simply be together
Perhaps the most meaningful gift of all is time. Unrushed, undistracted, and shared.
With cost-of-living pressures at the moment, celebrating Mother's Day doesn't need to break the bank. A little inspiration, creativity and these simple meaningful gestures can mean so much more.
However, if you’d like to complement these moments with a thoughtful gift, I’ve curated a selection both in-store and on my website that reflects this same philosophy—pieces that are both beautiful and practical, designed to be enjoyed in everyday rituals.
From timeless table linens to simple comforts that bring warmth into the home, each item is chosen with care, in the hope that it becomes part of your own meaningful moments.
However you choose to celebrate, I hope your Mother’s Day feels gentle, connected, and full of heart.
